Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival

Satellite Events in Straubing

Straubing is one of four regions in Germany to have successfully applied to take part in the Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival. The festival week runs from 11 to 17 March 2024 and is organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors. In addition to the main events in Brussels, some events will also take place in Straubing.

The Straubing Campus for Biotechnology and Sustainability of the Technical University of Munich (TUMCS) is in charge of the Straubing satellite event and is organising several events together with other partners from the region of renewable raw materials, to which the public is also invited.

Green Industry Talk – „Is a transition to a sustainable economy possible?“

As part of the EU Bioeconomy Changemakers Week, a public discussion evening entitled “Is a transition to a sustainable economy possible?” will take place on Tuesday, 12 March at the NAWAREUM museum with representatives from politics, business and science. Together with the Bavarian Bioeconomy Expert Council, the KoNaRo – Competence Centre for Renewable Resources and the student initiative TUMCSGreenTalk, the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) is organising this so-called “Green Industry Talk”.

The event begins at 6.30 pm with presentations, followed by a panel discussion with Dr Wolfgang Kraus, Research Director of Südzucker AG, Dr Philipp Brodbeck, Head of the Bioeconomy Department at the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, and student Nina Faecks. Prof Sebastian Goerg from the Chair of Economics at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) will also take part in the panel discussion, during which the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The event will take place in the Gartensaal of the NAWAREUM at Schulgasse 23a in Straubing and the public is invited to attend. Admission to the event is free and open from 6 pm.

How to… be a bioeconomy founder?! – Career opportunities in bio-based start-ups

The Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival is a joint event of the European Commission and the TUM Venture Lab Sustainability/Circular in cooperation with BioCampus Straubing GmbH, where the organisers want to present Straubing’s innovation ecosystem with various start-up teams from the bioeconomy and the start-up infrastructure within the TUM Venture Lab Sustainability/Circular. The participants – from pupils to students – will immerse themselves in the world of innovation and present pitches from the initial phase to advanced companies. The aim is to provide insights on how to start your entrepreneurial journey and show that there are many career opportunities in the entrepreneurial ecosystem compared to the traditional career path.

Embark on a fusion of Bioeconomy and Entrepreneurship! Join us on March 13th, 2-5 pm at TGZ, Straubing. Dive into a world of innovation, featuring pitches from early-stage to advanced ventures that showcase sustainable and circular startup solutions. Network with experts and gain valuable insights into the key players that drive sustainable and circular entrepreneurship. Organized by BioCampus Straubing GmbH and TUM Venture Lab Sustainability & Circular, it’s an afternoon of first-hand experiences, opportunities, and tasty snacks!

Next Steps after Straubing – Careers in Academica, Industry & Beyond

As part of the festival, TUMCS is organising the event “Next Steps after Straubing – Careers in Academica, Industry and Beyond” on 14 March 2024. The event is mainly aimed at postdocs and doctoral students of the TUM Campus Straubing, but of course all TUMCS students are cordially invited. In short presentations, several TUMCS alumni from a wide range of research areas will talk about their careers after working at the Straubing campus, provide valuable insights into their everyday working lives and will be available for questions and discussions. The event will take place from 5 p.m. in a Straubing pub, so that a cosy get-together is possible afterwards.
