At the start of lectures in the 2025/26 winter semester Around 270 new students at TUMCS

The Straubing university location continues to enjoy great popularity: As lectures begin today for the 2025/26 winter semester, TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) welcomes around 270 first-year students to Straubing. This means that almost 1,200 young women and men are now studying and conducting research at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability. As the registration period for the winter semester is still open, the number of first-year students could increase further.

Last Friday, the campus welcomed its new students at a welcome event in the lecture hall. Prof. Volker Sieber, Rector of TUM Campus Straubing, said: "The large number of first-year students shows that our interdisciplinary and forward-looking degree programmes appeal to the younger generation." Prof. Sieber encouraged the new students. "Stay curious, enjoy your time and student life in Straubing!" said Prof. Sieber.

Students from more than 70 nations on campus

Dean of Studies Prof. Cordt Zollfrank, responsible for teaching at TUMCS, also wished the first-year students a successful start in Straubing and addressed the international students in particular. Women and men from all over the world come to Straubing to study and make the world a little more sustainable and liveable. Students from more than 70 nations are now studying at the Straubing campus.

Straubing's mayor, Dr Albert Solleder, welcomed the first-year students on behalf of the city of Straubing and wished them a smooth and exciting start in their new surroundings. TUMCS and the city of Straubing presented the new students with a joint welcome gift – among other things, the first-year students received a Straubing cheque and a sustainable Straubing mug with the city skyline.

After the welcome ceremony, where first-year students were served Leberkäs with pretzels, student initiatives such as the UniGarten working group, the Green Office sustainability office and the trainers of the various university sports programmes presented themselves in the foyer of the "Sustainable Chemistry" building.

Lectures run until February 2026

The lecture period in the new winter semester ends in early February 2026. TUMCS offers a variety of study options for interested students. Academic education at the Straubing campus is provided through several bachelor's and master's programmes, some of which are only available at TUM in Straubing nationwide. The Straubing campus offers bachelor's degree programmes in Bioeconomy, Chemical Biotechnology and Sustainable Management & Technology, and TUMCS is expanding its range of master's degree programmes. Interested parties can apply for a bachelor's degree programme starting in the next winter semester 2026/27 via "TUMonline" from May onwards.

Enrolment is possible after the start of lectures, so individual figures may change in the coming weeks.
