Here you can find the program for our open house.
Look over the shoulders of scientists in the lab
At the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability (TUMCS), you can look over the shoulders of scientists in the lab. Here, for example, the small world of microorganisms comes into its own. A look through the microscope reveals the hidden world of mold and yeast. Various laboratory demonstrations show how steam distillation of spices works and how substances can be separated from each other using foam. Potential start-ups present their innovative business ideas. There is also 3D printing with plastic made from plants and exciting chemical experiments to marvel at, from alcohol tests to DNA puzzles. Of course, you can also find out about the various study programs available in Straubing on this day, and the TU Munich's public library will be open.
Wide range of advisory services
As part of KoNaRo (Competence Center for Renewable Raw Materials), the Technology and Support Center will be even more prominent this year. In particular, the areas of wood heating, renewable fuels, energy crops, and system evaluation will be presented in a practical and visitor-friendly manner. Whether at the test benches in the technical center or in the show garden, our scientists will be on hand to answer your questions. Ask about energy topics that are important to you, enjoy our games, and explore the NAWAREUM on a free tour of the exhibition. We look forward to seeing you there. Further information is available at www.tfz.bayern.de.
C.A.R.M.E.N. e.V. takes you further into the world of the bioeconomy and the renewable carbon economy. From ski boots containing castor oil to biodegradable sand toys, there are many exciting objects to see here. For children, the MobilMINT research workshop offers hands-on experiments in chemistry, biology, materials science, electrical engineering, and energy technology.
NAWAREUM
The NAWAREUM is offering exciting tours on its open day:
- 3:00 p.m. Garden tour (€3 per person)
- 3:30 p.m. Highlight tour plus (€4 per person)
- 4:30 p.m. Herb tour (€3 per person)
The "ErneuerBar" bistro in the NAWAREUM is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and serves hot meals, cakes, snacks, and a special surprise dish. From 3:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with drinks and a DJ. Admission to the museum is free on this day.
Further information can be found here.
Partners introduce themselves
Various partners of KoNaRo will also be presenting themselves at the open house:
The Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial and Bio Process Engineering IGB is offering tours of the laboratory building and demonstrations for children, such as making bath bombs.
And the Bavarian Bioeconomy Council will use a raw materials memory game to explain the wide range of applications that biogenic raw materials already have today.
In addition, the Straubinger Altstadtfreunde association will open the Schutzengelkirche church and the historic coronation chapel, and association members will be on hand to provide information about the special features of both buildings.
Colorful supporting program
To make the open house an experience for the whole family, there will also be a children's NawaRo rally on Friday with lots of tricky tasks for young researchers and many activities at the Aktivspielplatz e.V. playmobile.
The Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz will provide refreshments, including coffee and cake. The open house will be accompanied by music from Quetschnblech, a young, traditional Bavarian brass band.
Guided tours and lectures
In addition to the ongoing program, the following lectures and guided tours will be offered during the open house:
- 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.: Laboratory tour of the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial and Bio Process Engineering IGB
- 2:30 p.m.: The potential for start-ups – pitch of projects from the biotech sector
We would like to invite you to the final pitches of the six interdisciplinary teams from the TUM CS master's course BioTech Ventures, which was developed in cooperation with the TUM Venture Lab for Sustainability and Circular Economy. Over the past few weeks, the students have worked on real-world biotechnological challenges and developed innovative start-up concepts with the support of coaching, stakeholder insights, and targeted mentoring. The presentations will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the SAZ building – we look forward to seeing you there for exciting insights, fresh perspectives, and valuable networking opportunities with experts, mentors, and jury members! - 3:00 p.m.: Garden tour at NAWAREUM (€3 per person) – plant diversity in the museum garden
- 3:30 p.m.: Highlight tour plus at NAWAREUM (€4 per person) – overview of the topics of sustainability, nature, climate change, renewable raw materials, and renewable energies. Together, we will discover various highlights of the exhibition – from the fundamentals of our Earth to the diversity of renewable raw materials and their use.
- 3:30 p.m.: Modern laboratories and historic walls – guided tour of the Sustainable Chemistry building at Uferstraße 53 and the former youth center at Petersgasse 5.
- 4:00 p.m.: Demonstration of "Optical Laser Measurement Technology" and experiment: "H2 as an Energy Storage Medium"
- 4:30 p.m.: Herb tour in the NAWAREUM museum garden (€3 per person): Which plants actually grow along the wayside? And what can they be used for? What is in our cultivated plants, such as lavender and rosemary?
- 5:00 p.m.: Once monks, now students – guided tour of the former Franciscan monastery and its catacombs
