2nd Straubing Sustainability Talks at TUM Campus Straubing How precious land can be used sustainably

On Thursday, 2 May 2024, the Straubing Sustainability Talks will take place for the second time at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) for Biotechnology and Sustainability – a joint event organised by Hochschulstadt Straubing e.V. and TUMCS. The central theme of this year's colloquium is land use. With this event, the organisers aim to highlight solutions for how humanity can best manage this precious resource.

The presentations and a panel discussion with representatives from politics, agriculture and nature conservation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in the U7 lecture hall at TUM Campus Straubing, Uferstraße 53, and are open to the general public.

‘The discussion raises the question of whether the traditional order of land use is being called into question and whether radical changes are needed,’ says Toni Hinterdobler, chairman of Hochschulstadt Straubing e.V. ‘Currently, different forms of land use are competing with each other: from intensive agriculture and organic farming to commercial and residential development, forest planting and use for solar or wind energy – not to mention natural moors.’ Hinterdobler hopes that the colloquium will also provide impetus for shaping the upcoming structural change in land use and agriculture.

The Straubing Sustainability Talks will regularly examine and discuss individual aspects of sustainability in greater depth and provide social and political impetus. The first event in October 2023 focused on the topic of ‘CO2 as a climate killer.’ The kick-off event was very well received, with around 200 interested participants.
