Prior to his appointment to the Chair of Sustainability Management at TUM, Prof. Gold worked for eight years as Professor of Sustainable Management at the University of Kassel and from 2014 to 2016 as Assistant Professor at the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) at the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom). After completing his doctorate at the University of Kassel in 2011, Prof. Gold worked as a post-doc at the Université de Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Prior to this, he studied Cultural Economics at the University of Passau.
Prof. Gold is ranked by "research.com" as one of the top 50 best scientists in business and management in Germany and was included in the list of the world's top two per cent of scientists by the renowned Stanford University.
The research of the Chair of Sustainability Management focuses in particular on the social dimension of sustainability. "This offers many opportunities to connect with colleagues in Straubing and at TUM as a whole in order to initiate and support developments towards a sustainable future from an interdisciplinary perspective," says Prof. Gold. His research focuses on the question of the economic and social organisation of the transformation towards greater sustainability. Prof. Gold's research focuses on topics such as modern slavery and decent work, the circular economy, sustainable value chain management, inclusion and equality as well as sustainability in humanitarian aid.
"Further establishing ourselves as a beacon of sustainability research"
Prof. Gold is looking forward to his role in the Gäuboden city: "I want to help further establish the campus in Straubing as a beacon of sustainability research in Germany and internationally. Together with our colleagues, we want to make an important contribution to a sustainable, fair and prosperous society and economy with our teaching, research and knowledge transfer. As a small location, we must work together to ensure that our topics are heard."
Prof. Dr. Volker Sieber, Rector of TUMCS, sees the appointment of Prof. Gold as an enormous gain for Straubing as a university location. "Sustainability is not a trend, but a key task for the future. With the appointment of Prof. Gold, we are strengthening our scientific expertise and interdisciplinary focus and setting new accents in teaching – in a subject area that will be of crucial importance for future generations," says Prof. Sieber.
The development of sustainable technologies on the one hand and their economic implementation on the other – these are the two major topics that the TUM Campus Straubing brings together as the so-called "Integrative Research Institute" of the Technical University of Munich. Academic training at TUM Campus Straubing takes place within the framework of several Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes.
