In his welcoming address, Rector Prof. Sieber praised the outstanding achievements that the graduates had made during their studies. Prof. Sieber mentioned that the young men and women had also developed "values and personal skills on their academic journey - far beyond their respective specialist knowledge". The Rector cited creativity, critical thinking, cohesion, team spirit, conflict resolution and resilience as examples. Prof. Sieber wished the graduates much courage and confidence in their new phase of life.
Dean of Studies Prof. Zollfrank bid farewell to the graduates with instructions for making a boomerang. Symbolically, the graduates should now carry their knowledge out into the world, but also maintain the connection to their alma mater and perhaps even return to TUM for a doctorate.
"We will miss Straubing"
Toni Hinterdobler, Chairman of Hochschulstadt Straubing e.V., congratulated the graduates, as did Straubing's mayor Dr. Albert Solleder. The city representative emphasized the enormous importance of the campus and its students for the city and was pleased about the high proportion of international graduates. In total, students from more than 70 countries study and research in Straubing.
In their speech, the two students Guillermina Boragno and Samuel Rychetsky spoke of a "formative and unforgettable time" at TUMCS and thanked their families and friends for their support. "We will miss Straubing, this wonderful city will always remain in our hearts," said the two graduates. They also joked about the language barriers of the international students. When they came to Straubing, the latter had to learn Bavarian as a foreign language in addition to German.
Dr. Tobias Borgmeyer, who graduated from TUMCS with a Master's degree around seven years ago, gave a keynote speech about his academic career, which has now taken him to the ETH in Lausanne. Borgmeyer gave the recent graduates tips and advice for their future careers.
Around 120 former students – including many from abroad – gathered in the Magnobonus Markmiller Hall for the ceremony to celebrate the graduation together with friends and relatives as well as students and professors.
The development of sustainable technologies on the one hand and their economic implementation on the other - these are the two major topics that the TUM Campus Straubing brings together as the so-called "Integrative Research Institute" of the Technical University of Munich. Academic training at the TUM Campus Straubing takes the form of several Bachelor's and Master's degree courses.
