New Publication in the Auditing Journal „Die Wirtschaftsprüfung“ (WPg)
Prof. Dr. Janine Maniora recently published a new research paper entitled „Implikationen des CSR-Richtlinie-Umsetzungsgesetzes für den Mittelstand – Empirische Analyse der MDAX-Unternehmen” (Implications of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Directive Implementation Act for medium-sized companies) in the journal of auditing „Die Wirtschaftsprüfung“ (WPg) that is coauthored by Dr. Stephanie Lenger and Prof. Dr. Christiane Pott (TU Dortmund University). The paper examines the consequences of the new German CSR Directive Implementation Act (CSR-Richtlinie-Umsetzungsgesetz (CSR-RUG)) implementing the EU Directive 2014/95/EU on non-financial reporting for small and medium entities (SMEs). Although the Act requires only certain public companies to disclose information on environmental, social and employee matters, respect for human rights, anti-corruption and bribery matters, SMEs can be indirectly affected by the new CSR reporting requirements when they maintain business relations to obliged companies. The empirical analyses of MDAX companies in the first year of enactment (fiscal year 2017) show that the reporting is incomplete. One reason for that might be the missing ability to influence and query all required information from suppliers that are beyond the first stage. You can find the article here.
