Prof. Röder in an interview with BR High timber prices – an opportunity?

Managing the forest whilst also making a profit is no easy task. This year, timber prices have reached an all-time high. Forest owners are happy to take advantage of these good prices. For sawmills, however, these prices pose a challenge, particularly as the market for timber products is currently sluggish, the construction industry is stagnating and placing significantly fewer orders than in previous years. 

How the stakeholders are dealing with this, and why Prof. Hubert Röder from the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS) nevertheless sees an opportunity for climate-friendly forest conversion, can all be seen in a recent TV report by Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR).

Prof. Röder (Professorship of Sustainable Business Economics) also discusses, among other things, why prices for spruce or pine, for example, are currently so high and what he recommends to foresters. Prof. Röder also addresses the role of the bark beetle and predicts whether prices will remain high.
